Volunteering plays such an important role in making our communities stronger and more resilient. We are so grateful for all the people making a difference by volunteering with us across our services!
One of them is our volunteer Jan, who helps with Breakfast Club at Sheffield School. She sums up perfectly what she gets out of it too:
There are infinite benefits in being a volunteer at DECYP. The friendships you share are for life. You build up strong connections with young people. You build up connections in the community. And we make our whole community much stronger through our work.
And there are so many ways to do it! Every contribution matters, no matter how big or small!
So why not give it a go?
Reach out to your local school, library or Child and Family Learning Centre (CFLC), and see how you could help!
Some opportunities may be:
- joining your School Association, if you are a parent or carer of a student at the school
- reading with children at school – in English, or another language!
- helping with gardening at your local school or CFLC
- helping with programs at libraries like Rock and Rhyme or school holiday activities
- becoming a sports coach
- tutoring students
- helping with preparing food at your local school – regularly, e.g. at the school canteen or a breakfast club, or once off at an event!
- supporting English conversation groups at libraries.
You could also open up your home to become a foster carer or homestay host for international students.
It’s all about finding what’s right for you and fits your skills and interests.
Anything is possible when we come together for children and young people!
