A person seeking their personal information about their education, employment history, time in State Care/ involvement with Child Safety Services, or Youth Detention, can apply to the department for copies of their records.

There is no fee for this service.

We aim to process all applications within 20 business days.

The Personal Information Protection Act 2004 came into effect on 5 September 2005 and regulates the way in which public sector agencies deal with how personal information is collected, maintained, used and disclosed in the course of delivering services. A copy of the Act is available on the Tasmanian Government Legislative database.

The department acts in accordance with the Personal Protection Act 2004 in its collection, storage and use of personal information. The department takes reasonable steps to ensure that personal information is accurate, complete and up to date.

What if I am unhappy with the information received?

If you are not satisfied with the department’s handling of your matter or the outcome of your request you can lodge a further request in writing to Legal Services by email at RTI.PIP@decyp.tas.gov.au or post to Department for Education, Children and Young People, Legal Services, GPO Box 169, Hobart TAS 7001.
