What change is being proposed?

The proposed change is to make Primrose Sands part of Dunalley Primary School’s intake area.  Primrose Sands is currently part of Dodges Ferry Primary School’s intake area.

Why is this change being proposed?

The reasons for this proposed change are:

  • The Sorell Local Government Area (LGA) is projected to be the fastest growing LGA in percentage terms from 2023 to 2053.
  • Dodges Ferry Primary School is at-capacity while Dunalley Primary School has room for extra enrolments.
  • Increasing enrolments at Dunalley Primary School would support long-term sustainable school populations at both schools.

When would this change come into effect?

The proposed change would come into effect as follows:

  • 2025 – Families in Primrose Sands able to enrol their kinder child at either Dodges Ferry Primary School or Dunalley Primary School.
  • 2026 – Primrose Sands becomes part of Dunalley Primary School’s intake area.
    • Dunalley Primary School becomes the local ‘in-area’ school for students living in Primrose Sands.
    • Siblings of students enrolled at Dodges Ferry Primary School continue to have an entitlement to enrol under sibling grounds.
    • Primrose Sands families may be able to apply for out-of-area enrolment at Dodges Ferry Primary School, if the school has capacity and they are able to meet the criteria for out-of-area enrolment.

Can my child catch a bus from Primrose Sands to Dunalley Primary School?

A bus service already runs through Primrose Sands to Dunalley Primary School to transport Primrose Sands students to and from school. If Primrose Sands becomes part of Dunalley Primary School’s intake area this school bus service would continue to operate.

Does Dunalley Primary School have before and after-school care?

The school also has a before and after-school program to assist with transport, care and commuting times for families.
