Course description

The “Being a Parent” course is more than just another parenting course. Why? It is a course that is facilitated by parents for parents with the support of Child and Family Learning Centre staff in the background. The Parent Facilitator Induction Training (PFIT) program re-explores and re-exposes parents (who have ideally already completed a Being a Parent course) to the content, strategies and methods of the Being a Parent course again.

The training is an eight (8) day course that helps parents explore and explain, watch and think, facilitate and reflect on Being a Parent whilst shifting from a community parent to potentially becoming a paid Department for Education, Children & Young People (DECYP) employee.

Using an adult learning approach which acknowledges and builds on the experiences you bring with you, you’ll be encouraged to not only undertake some pre-course preparatory work and during course reflective work, but also to actively practice your skills in a supportive learning environment.

Course outcomes

Parents will gain a deeper understanding of the theories that influence the Being a Parent course. Parents will also have the opportunity to learn more about, practice and become more familiar with the content, group processes and facilitation skills. Parents who complete the course successfully will be certified as Parent Facilitators.
