Course description
This Canvas course provides information and support to administer GAPS. Resources including screening materials and educator and family resources are included.
GAPS is available and recommended as an early language screen, ideally administered in Pre-Kinder or Kindergarten (3 years, 5 months to 6 years 5 months).
Identifying learners who may be at risk in their early language development will provide for opportunities for intervention strategies and referral pathways for further assessment
About GAPS
The GAPS test has been designed to be a quick, simple screen of young children’s language status. The screen aims to identify children in need of further assessment, rather than to be definitive or diagnostic. It is a tool to identify children with or at risk for developmental language and/or literacy disorders early in their education. It provides preliminary indicators of language component impairment in both morpho-syntax and phonology and lays the foundations for appropriate full assessment and remediation.
