About the Young Archies
- Awards are presented in year categories for the best portrait of a person created by a student in the last 12 months.
- The subject of the portrait must be of someone personally known to the student, like a friend, family member, classmate or teacher.
- Portraits can be in any 2D media, like drawings, paintings or collages, but cannot include photography. Digital artwork cannot have been created using Artificial Intelligence.
All entries receive a Certificate of Participation and prizes are awarded for:
- Category winners ($100)
- Overall Primary Winner (Kindergarten to Year 6 – $150)
- Tony Woodward Award (Overall Secondary Winner – Year 7 to Year 12 – $150)
- Packing Room Prize ($100)
- People’s Choice Award & UTAS Student’s Choice Award
- Department for Education, Children and Young People – Secretary’s Award ($100)
- Commissioner for Children and Young People’s Award ($100)

Young Archies Exhibitions
All artworks will be exhibited in Hobart at the UTAS School of Creative Arts and Media for two weeks in August/September.
Following this, a touring exhibition of the 2026 Young Archies Awards prize recipients will visit Launceston and the North-West.
